After months of sailing on somewhat choppy waters without a leader at the helm, the University Library crew was overly delighted to welcome James Krusling aboard. James took over as the new University Library Director, August 1.
Prior to joining the library, he served as Associate Director of the Law Library at Western State University in Fullerton, and later as Dean of Libraries and Learning Center at the Glendale Community College.
James comes to us with a focus on enriching the experience of all GGU students, faculty, and staff, by increasing the avenues by which information literacy can be increased.
Here are a few of James’ goals:
- To capitalize on the many wonderful things libraries do as part of the overall academic enterprise by taking a comprehensive approach to teaching students to find, evaluate, and use information for a variety of purposes.
- To provide students with the level of access to resources and research assistance which aids their ability to be academically successful and able to quickly launch into careers with valuable skills learned through interaction with the library.
- To provide opportunities for students and faculty to utilize library resources and technology to create new information products with an eye toward increased understanding of the associated big-picture information issues.
James believes that libraries can not only continue to be excellent supporters of the curriculum, but also leaders on issues related to the knowledgeable and effective use of information by students and faculty as they add to the bodies of knowledge in their respective academic disciplines. Moving in this direction requires an increased understanding of the intellectual property issues associated with using technology as students begin to create media-intensive and other representations of their research.
These skills will enable students to leave GGU having more effectively participated in their disciplinary studies and with a set of skills they can utilize as lifelong learners and creators of knowledge within and beyond particular disciplines.
Among the many interests James has are traveling, exploring areas with interesting architecture, and trying new food.
Stop by and welcome our new director.
